Zielsetzung:

THESEUS erforscht in dieser Arbeitsgruppe semantische Technologien auf Basis sogenannter Ontologien, die es Computern erlauben, die Bedeutung von Inhalten zu „verstehen”. Ontologien sind formale Wissensmodelle, die das Wissen eines Fachgebiets konzeptuell abbilden und dessen automatisierte Verarbeitung auf einer Bedeutungsebene erschließen – wie dies bisher nur dem Menschen möglich war. Basierend auf den vom W3C definierten semantischen Technologiestandards RDF(S) und OWL werden Methoden und Werkzeuge zum Management von Ontologien für deren Erstellung (Design), Pflege (Evolution) und Verarbeitung (Mapping, Reasoning) entwickelt.

Das Management von Ontologien beinhaltet den Umgang mit strukturierten, semantisch reichhaltigen Informationen, damit Informationen durch das Verbinden heterogener Datenquellen integriert werden können. Auch die semantische Suche mit einer Interpretation von Dokumenten und Anfragen, das Management von Wissen durch die Formalisierung von Wissensmodellen und die Simulation von Spezialistenwissen im Rahmen von Expertensystemen werden dadurch ermöglicht.
